The Associate in Applied Sciences (AAS) in Computer Programming prepares students to work in entry-level positions in computer programming. Learn the basics of web programming, website design and implementation. Demand will be greatest for programmers who 1) know a variety of programming languages and 2) understand an employer’s business and its programming requirements. Systems programmers write programs to maintain and control systems software that may run systems such as a large office’s computer network.
The answer to this problem turned out to be a new language called Ada-named for Countess Ada Lovelace, “the first programmer” (see Appendix B). Sponsored by the Pentagon, Ada was originally intended to be a standard language for weapons systems, but it has also been used successfully for commercial applications.
Compile and write documentation of program development and subsequent revisions, inserting comments in the coded instructions so others can understand the program. More than almost any other occupation, computer programmers must continue to develop new skills and knowledge to remain competitive in the job market.
Understanding how to become a programmer requires embracing the fact that, like anything, it takes time and practice to become really good at it. Plus, even the best coders always have more that they can learn. Programmers then may prepare systems flow charts that show diagrammatically how information will flow through the computer and its peripheral, or related, equipment.

College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Information Technology: Computer Programming curriculum prepares graduates for employment as computer programmers and related positions through study and applications in computer concepts, logic, programming procedures, languages, generators, operating systems, networking and data management. Get started on your career path with the Bachelor of Science in Computer Programming at GCU. And the possibilities only keep expanding thanks to the curiosity and inventiveness of great programmers. That’s why computer programming is often described as a mix between art and science; it’s technical and analytical, yet creative at the same time.
Hailed as modern, simple, and powerful, C# represents one of the core languages computer programmers must know to qualify for most jobs in this field. All Milton students experience an introduction to programming in Geometry classes, which sparks an interest in many students, who then take on elective courses in Advanced Programming Applications and Artificial Intelligence.
Most computer programmers work about 40 hours per week. Programming knowledge can open the door to many jobs, such as a software programmer, developer or engineer. The average computer programmer’s starting salary approaches just $52,000, while late-career programmers earn, on average, about $89,000 per year.
This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers such as entry level programmers, programmer specialists, computer programmers, senior programmers, chief business programmers, programmer analysts, and information systems programmers in the Information Technology career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the … Read More...
